Arabic
The Arabic courses primarily serve students majoring in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. Researchers and students of other disciplines who intend to specialize in Arabic are invited to join the intensive four-semester program, subject to availability.
Arabic is taught in Arabic from day one; students acquire the ability to communicate orally and in writing, in a culturally and context-appropriate manner. The language of instruction is Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), the lingua franca of the Arabic-speaking world. In the third and fourth semesters, the progression in MSA is complemented by the "Bridge to Colloquial Arabic" module. During this time all students also participate in the ביני ובינך - بيني وبينك tandem language exchange, a unique framework that brings together learners of Arabic and Hebrew on campus.
Interested in acquiring Colloquial Arabic outside of the curriculum? We invite you to join our Safot@HUJI evening courses.
